About Lake Dunlap

Lake Dunlap is one of several lakes created by the seizure of the Guadalupe River due to the construction of a dam on the river itself. It is located in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, USA, north of San Antonio, Texas.

Lake Dunlap is one of the largest lakes in the Guadalupe River Basin and the second largest lake in Texas. The reservoir was completed in 1953, with the construction of a dam on the river and a dam. In 1963, the management of the lake and the dam was taken over by the Guadalupes Blanco Authority.

It is the longest of the three accessible by boat and consists of about 2.2 million hectares of land. The lake is popular for boating, fishing on jet skis, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing on jet skis.

Lake Dunlap is a residential lake with limited public access and there are unmarked stumps and flat spots. Public access to Lake Dunlap is via a boat ramp on the Highway 35 flyover. Fishing is possible for jet skis, kayaks, canoes, swimming and fishing on jet skis and kayaks.

Large perches weighing more than 7 pounds are caught at Lake Dunlap - round, as well as small perches, large perches and small mouthfuls. Wildlife include spotted bass, flathead catfish, bluefish, redfish and whitefish. The dam is baited with drip cords, where the fish often live, and the dam itself is surrounded by a series of small ponds where fish live and spawn.

Popular baits used in spring and winter are black pigs and pigs, but Topwater crank baits and bus baits are used throughout summer and fall. Early in the morning and late in the evening, the cooler temperatures and lower water levels will produce better catches.

The Guadalupe River, which runs through Dunlap Lake, is one of the best floating and paddling rivers in the state of Texas.

Minutes only Minutes from Lake Dunlap, it is 230 miles long and the second longest river in Texas after the Rio Grande. Nearby attractions include the Fort Worth Museum of Natural History, Texas State Fair, Natural History Museum, Art Museum and Zoo.

The Guadalupe River and its tributaries such as the Rio Grande and the San Jacinto are popular with rafters and paddlers and are also popular for rafting.

The river is controlled by a dam at Canyon Lake, which governs the Guadalupe River into Lake Dunlap and its tributaries, the Rio Grande and the San Jacinto. LakeDunlap is located on the west side of Texas, north of San Marcos, Texas. Other nearby towns are waiting to be explored, including San Marco, Seguin, McQueeney and Wimberley, all a short drive away.
