About Calaveras Lake

This man - a jewel - is located in Calaveras County, Texas, USA, north of San Antonio. Calaversa's reservoir was created in 1969 as a cooling-power pond and developed into one of the first basin lakes in Texas.

It is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States and is the second largest lake in Texas, only behind San Antonio Lake.

The city of San Antonio is responsible for the lake and the dam, Calaveras is partly filled with purified sewage. The CPS Energy plant is still an important part of the shores of Lake Calaversa, and it was the first project in the nation to use treated wastewater to cool a power plant.

The 3,600-acre lake attracts a large number of visitors from across the United States and around the world. The San Antonio River Authority manages a public park that offers visitors beautiful views of Lake Calaveras and its surroundings. This 146-hectare park is also a great place to see birds, and among the reeds of the lake, bird lovers can spot wrens, swamps, Lincoln sparrows and yellowbacks.

Nature trails are one of the new attractions in Calaveras Park, and nature adorns the park, making the walk pleasant and scenic.

Spring is a good time to explore Calaversa Park and walk along the paths where well-placed benches provide a place to rest and enjoy the beautiful views.

Fishermen go to Lake Calaveras to fish in the well-stocked ponds, and the red plate weighs an impressive 30 pounds. The blue catfish weighs 31 pounds, the mouth fish from Lake Calaversas weighs a whopping 13 pounds, and the red plates weigh an incredible 20 pounds, with a maximum weight of 35 pounds!

While catfish can be caught all year round - March and May are the best time to catch them, but spring and March - May is a good time to catch the white mouth fish that can be found in the bullbush reefs, dams and bays.

March - August is the best time to hunt for red drums in Lake Calaveras, and March - June - July for white-mouthed fish and August - September for catfish.

Once caught, fishermen can use the fish cleaning station to dive for larger ones and prepare for a trip to the fire or to go home. You can also catch catfish, red drum and white fish by diving for large ones.

Water sports is one of the main attractions on Lake Calaveras and it is important to note that sailboats are not allowed on the lake. Motorboats, watercraft and water skiing are some of the most popular activities in Calaversas. Self-propelled canoes and kayaks are also popular on the blue lake - water lake and self-propelled canoes and kayaks are also popular on blue lakes.

History lovers should also plan a trip to Alamo, where part of the original fortress has been preserved. Take a trip to San Antonio to enjoy the nightlife and culture and experience the history of Texas and its people.

The San Antonio River Walk is just across the street from downtown and there are many historic sites such as the Alamo, the Texas Museum of Natural History and the Calaveras Lake Historic District to name a few. Bexar County surrounds Lake Calaversa with more than 5,000 acres of land and more than 2,500 acres in the city of San Jose. The county has more than 650 registered historical sites, many of which are still open to the public.

Guests will visit unique boutiques, be treated to live music and be visited by a variety of local artists, artisans, musicians and other local businesses. The River Walk is lined with restaurants, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, as well as a range of outdoor activities.

San Antonio also has a zoo and several theme parks, and vacation rentals are available on the lake as well as in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston and other cities in Texas.
