About Lake Florence
Florence Lake is special for the people of Seattle and Puget Sound, but for people outside Seattle, Florence Lake and the local tribes called Anderson Island. A refuge for farmers, now a residential area, it served hundreds of citizens and visitors as a retreat for farmers and now as a recreational area for residents and visitors.
The island, which is only accessible by ferry from Steilacoom, has two small lakes and two smaller lakes.
Lake Josephine is a motorized lake and is connected to Lake Florence by a small canal, and by small canals to the other two smaller lakes. The Josephinessee is private and a number of private houses adorn the southern shore of the lake. Although smaller than Anderson Island, Lake Florence is still a public lake with a population of about 1,000 people.
There are far fewer houses on the north coast, but some private and some public houses adorn the south coast.
Small Lowell Johnson Park, commonly known as the Old Swimming Hole, features a picnic area with picnic tables, a pool and a playground for children and adults. A separate rappelling and bathing area is provided for children and adults, although no lifeguard is in use. The picnic areas have toilets, clay courts and volleyball courts, but the area has been designated as a wave pool, which means a slow speedboat ride.
Reports show unofficial moorings in the park, but park officials say there are none. The lake is small for the size of the lake, and although some parking spaces on the north shore have been designated as a nature reserve, designated boat moorings are expected to be available soon, at least for smaller boats.
The lake and its streams feed on trout, which can often be caught from the shore or the canals, and white and blue perch reproduce naturally in the lake. Most resort owners behave similarly, with a few exceptions, to the one that owns the Sea-to-Sea resort on the north coast.
Lake Florence's lake level remains remarkably stable from year to year, but can vary depending on rainfall, although it has remained remarkably stable from year to year. While there are no accommodations in Puget Sound, vacation rentals can be booked in the area and other parts of the state.
There is a primary school catering for fifth grade children, and older children take the ferry to Steilacoom, a 20-minute drive away.
Anderson Island is self-managed and all properties on the lake are members of the Riviera Community Club and must behave themselves. A number of private owners rent out their seasonal homes so that visitors can enjoy the view of the beautiful wooded lake of Florence.
Although Anderson Island is small, the park system, which is fully maintained by volunteers, includes paths through mudflats, forests, swamps and grassy slopes. The island is rich in wildlife, including birds, birds of prey, sea lions, bears, wolves, coyotes and other wild animals.
There is a car ferry to Steilacoom, and once the islanders are on the mainland, they will find a variety of shops, restaurants, shops and other amenities as well as hiking and cycling trails. Anderson Island is known for its solitude and natural environment and also offers a range of activities such as kayaking, hiking, fishing and fishing. There are also kayaking tours and a restaurant overlooking the water, overlooking the island and the surrounding area.
Tacoma is only about 15 miles north, while Seattle is less than an hour away, and between these two major cities all kinds of cultural and musical interests will find a place to express themselves.
If you plan a day from Lake Florence to the mainland, remember that the ferry stops at 22.30, so you should plan alternative accommodation. North Cascades National Park has everything an ambitious hiker could wish for, and about an hour east of it, Mount Rainier National Park offers spectacular views, climbing and hiking trails. The Olympic National Park is only a few hours west, but it also hosts some of the best hiking and mountain biking trails in the country.
In summer, charter salmon fishing is possible, while crabs are a popular pastime during the season and crabs can also be sold at the local market.
There is never a shortage of activities on Lake Florence and existing houses with lake views can sometimes be offered for sale. Other locations on Anderson Island are also sometimes available, with acreage and a healthy coastline. Although the building plots are limited, some plots are available in other parts of the lake, such as on the south shore of Lake Crook.
The islands offer good fresh and salt water, with the best fresh water in the area, and good salt water in other parts of the lake.
Don't plan to spend a few days on the shores of Lake Florence and experience the relaxed island culture. They fish for rainbow trout and whitefish and other fish in the saltwater of the lake.
