About Lake Arrowhead
Lake Arrowhead was built in 1966 near Wichita Falls and has a maximum depth of 45 feet. It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the USA and the second largest in Texas. The lake is surrounded by prairie land, filled with mesquite and black-tailed prairies, and offers endless recreational opportunities. It covers a total of 4000 square kilometres of coastline and 1.2 million cubic metres.
Arrowheads has an average annual capacity of 1200 people per day and an annual population of 3,800.
The predominant fish species in the lake are the white mouthfish, the main catch of spring, and the catfish. Since the 1960s, Lake Arrowhead has been stocked by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with a variety of perches and catfish species.
The population of saltwater fish includes the flathead catfish, the whitemouth fish and the redmouth fish. The most recent species introduced in the 1990s is the Isthbe, with the catch now weighing more than 12 pounds.
The Pfeilspitze Lake has ramps, and fishing competitions for children and adults take place on the lake and in the parking lot of the State Park. The State Park also features an illuminated fishing pier and floating jetty for fishing and boating in the water.
There are many training programs on offer, and some even offer teacher training, such as the Lake Rowhead School of Natural Resources and Environmental Science.
Lake Arrowhead is also home to the Texas National Park Service's Lake Rowhead Fishing Program, which is free for children and adults fishing in participating national parks in Texas. Not all programs are enforced, but some are for visitors who want to fish, such as the Lake Arrowhead National Wildlife Refuge. Pfroipspitze Lake is also a popular destination for kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, camping and other recreational activities.
Lake Arrowhead State Park offers a variety of recreational activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing and camping. In addition to the National Park and National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Arrowheads also offers fishing opportunities through the Lake Rowhead Fishing Program and Texas National Park Service Fishing Program.
Four equestrian campsites offer covered stands for horse riding as well as a variety of other outdoor activities. The State Park also features a number of picnic areas and beaches with picnic tables, a picnic area and a water park.
The Wichita Falls area is full of year-round activities, with the city holding its Spring Festival in April and its Fall Festival on the first Saturday in May.
The annual Pioneer Rodeo takes place on the third weekend in September, and the Hell's Kitchen tour takes place in August. If you're looking for a more picturesque view of Lake Arrowhead, it has had more than its share of rainstorms in recent years. The first of two new water parks in Wichita Falls will open in June, and a new lake park will open in July.
