About Choke Canyon Reservoir

Choke Canyon Lake, located 65 miles south of San Antonio, is being seized to supply drinking water to Corpus Christi, Texas, along the Gulf Coast. The water is taken from the Frio, the river flows into the Nueces.

Choke Canyon Lake is managed and operated by the city of Corpus Christi and is a popular destination for boaters and fishermen looking to escape the busy coastline. Public boat ramps are available on the lake, managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, including a public boat ramp on the north side of the lake and a private boat ramp on the south side, as well as public access to the park.

The Choke Canyon Lake ramp is open all year round, and the fish display features flathead catfish, bluefish, perch, redfish and other fish species.

The closest park to the lake is Choke Canyon State Park, which is located next to Chokes Canyon Reservoir.
