About Lavon Lake

Lavon Lake occupies a special place in the feelings of northeast Dallas residents. Located north of Dallas, Texas, just a few miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the reservoir does an excellent job of flood control and water supply to several cities in the region.

What most locals and visitors have noticed, however, is that it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States, if not the world.

Public access and recreational facilities were planned from the outset and in 1953 the Lavon Dam, built as part of the US Army Corps of Engineers' Lavon Lake Project, was completed. In 1974, the dam was enlarged to increase the water capacity, and now the lake offers a wide variety of water experiences - based on experiences such as kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and fishing. The lake, with its many boat stops, picnic areas, water parks and other amenities, offers plenty of space for public enjoyment. Lake Lavons is long and narrow, but includes several arms and numerous bays that offer a sheltered coastline, making it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and swimming.

Two concessions operate a full-service marina on the shores of the lake, as well as a small boat park, picnic area and water park with picnic areas.

Lake Lavon has been the home port of many of the city's sailors since its arrival in the early 20th century, due to its proximity to the Texas coast and its location on the Gulf Coast.

A private yacht club runs regattas and sailing boat races on the lake, and canoes and kayaks can be seen paddling through the irregular bay. Small boats and fishing boats can use it; some charge a small fee, while others are free, but if you are, you have to pay.

Some of the boat ramps are closed in winter, but others are open when the water level drops too far to make them usable. Many regulars and fishermen use a season pass for about $30, which covers the cost of a two-day boat trip from Fort Worth, Texas, to the lake.

Texas Parks and Wildlife regularly keeps perch and striped perch and other species. The lake is also home to shallow water catfish, white perch, blue perch and white perch. Lavon Lake, officially called Lavons Lake and officially part of the Texas State Park System, is a popular spot for fishermen.

The northern arm of the bay has standing forests that offer excellent fishing opportunities, especially for cappie, while the water in the reservoir is irrigated with little to no weeds.

Handicap - accessible Caddo Park also offers three fish ponds, and several other parks offer picnic areas, barbecues and boat ramps. Collins Park is operated by the marina as a site, but also offers camping and group camping is possible in Brockdale Park.

Small campsites are also available on the west side of the bay, on the main parking lot of the park and at the boat ramp.

A primitive hiking and biking trail stretching for about 100 km from Princeton to Farmersville runs along the lake and is accessible from Sister Grove Park. The path is only accessible during the day and camping is not allowed, but the USACE office at the reservoir can provide information about most facilities near the reservoir. While USACE works with Texas Parks and Wildlife to protect several wildlife areas around the lakes, the shores of Lavon Lake are publicly owned.

Several areas have been designated for hunting to hunt small mammals, waterfowl and wild boar, and deer hunting is allowed in areas that ensure the sustainability of white and tail boar as populations grow. State hunting and fishing licenses apply to USACE areas within the area, so hunters should always check the current regulations before hunting.

Although there are some residential areas around Lake Lavon, none is located on the shore, and so the coast remains undeveloped.

Many houses have water views, but private moorings are not allowed, and businesses in the area also rent boats and sports equipment for use around the lake. Much of this area was agricultural land and ranch land until a few small towns around it began to offer amenities to visitors to the lakes. Wildlife are often spotted and the areas appear wild and untouched by the water.

First, visitors can find local guides to help them explore the unknown waters, as well as a number of restaurants, shops and hotels.

The town of Wylie is close to the dam and offers accommodation in the form of chain hotels and motels, but you will not find campers. If you're looking for a wide variety of shopping and entertainment options, head to Rockwall, less than ten kilometers south. Wylee Marina is home to a number of restaurants and shops, as well as a few lakeside bars and restaurants.

Lake Ray Hubbard is located south of Lake Lavon and offers wineries, accommodations, a golf course and a park. Rockwall offers a variety of shopping, nightlife and entertainment, with a number of restaurants, bars and bars as well as hotels and motels.

Just 22 miles from Lake Lavon, Dallas offers big city charm and is known as Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex, with a variety of restaurants, bars, hotels and restaurants.

It is ideal for families, including power buyers and water sports fans, and offers all kinds of accommodation for all your needs. A holiday at Lavon Lake can also include a quiet camping experience or a lakeside experience, so pick your spot and choose from sports and entertainment. Head to Dallas or Lake Lavon for a vacation the whole family will enjoy.
