The State Park is not the only access to the lake; the park has camping facilities, an illuminated fishing pier and a jetty. The park also has a fishing pier, a boat ramp, illuminated fishing pier and jetties and a picnic area.

Other public boat ramps are available at the reservoir, but they require a map to find them, and not all are usable at any time due to changes in water levels. It offers most of the same services, albeit on a smaller scale, and offers access to the lake from State Park, the park parking lot and boat ramp, as well as a picnic area.

Bob Sandlin Lake supplies freshwater to nearby Pittsburg and Mount Pleasant as well as Fort Bend County, Texas. The Monticello Dam, built in 1972 at Blundell Creek, created Cypress Springs Lake, while the Franklin County Dam, built in the 1970s at Cypresses Creek, created Lake Montgomery. Completed in 1977, Bob Sandlins Reservoir was created as a result of the construction of two dams at Blundy Creek and Cypress Creek.

The Monticello reservoir supplies hydropower, while the lake serves as a cooling pool for steam. Cypress Springs Lake is used to supply water to Fort Bend County, Texas, as well as the nearby towns of Fort Benning and Mount Pleasant and a small number of other surrounding towns.

Visitors who are passionate about 19th century technology should visit the Pittsburg Depot, where they can admire a working telegraph station and a Ford T Surrey from 1909. The Farm Museum is a fully restored farmhouse from that time, and Pittsburg is a beautiful house built in the 1880s.
The city of Mount Pleasant invites visitors to visit a private museum called Legends of the Lawless Modern Western Museum. The museum is located in a historic building on the outskirts of the city, just a short drive from the city centre.

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts has regular performances and Mount Pleasant is always welcome. There are a number of restaurants and bars in Lake Bob Sandlin, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants in the city.

New development is currently underway in the area, including the Lake Bob Sandlin Community Center and Mount Pleasant Center for the Performing Arts. Existing houses and empty lakes were purchased for construction, as well as a number of new residential and commercial buildings.

As the reservoir is becoming more and more the most popular leisure destination in the region, private owners offer holiday apartments.
