About Lake Lewisville
For visitors, it offers a variety of recreational activities such as hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking, swimming, canoeing and other outdoor activities for children and adults.
Lake Lewisville is a 29,000-acre water playground created by the US Army Corps of Engineers by taking water from two different lakes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. Lake Dallas was the original lake built by the City of Dallas to protect against flooding and to be the area's main water source. Lake Lewisville in its current form is the result of the seizure of two separate lakes and provides Northeast Texas with its own water supply and a variety of recreational activities.
To meet the water needs of the growing community, the US Army Corps of Engineers began construction of a new dam, completed in 1955 on Lake Lewisville.
The Lake Dallas dam connected the two lakes, and the new reservoir was named Lake Lewisville. The old dam is still visible today and gives the impression that it is as big as the original LakeDallas.
Lake Lewisville has an average depth of 25 feet and can reach depths of 67 feet, although water levels fluctuate between 4 and 8 feet annually in normal years. Although the water in the lake is generally cloudy, the water quality is good and the water temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius. Lake Lewisville contains exposed and underwashed trunks of trees, bushes and other vegetation, increasing the risk to boats or other recreational craft.
With 187 miles of coastline, Lake Lewisville is surrounded by more than 9,000 hectares of protected nature. The lake offers many opportunities for overnight stays and fishing, as well as a variety of recreational activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing and camping.
Hybrid striped bass are stocked and offer anglers open - water sports fish, and blue channel catfish fishing is also excellent. Also known as Lake Lewisville, most fishing activities are offered on the east side of the lake, in the area around the shores of Lake El Paso.
There is a floating restaurant on the lake, which provides food and entertainment, and visitors are invited to join in. Another popular spot on Lewisville Lake is the old causeway where weekend revelers stay. The lake has a number of attractions, including an amphitheater, golf course, ice cream parlour and water park. Due to its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Lake Lewisville can be crowded in the summer months, but visitors can also visit it in the fall.
The LAs are open to the public to camp, canoe and kayak, and offer a variety of activities including fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, fishing and fishing, as well as beautiful views of the Dallas - Fort Worth area from the coast.
