About Stillhouse Hollow La
Crickets begin their twilight melody as a heron stands still on the edge of a Texas lake. As the sun sinks below the horizon, a large blue heron watches the water from the shore. Suddenly the big bird spreads its wings and plunges down to find a final resting place for the night.
The 6,430-acre lake is located on a prairie lake in Bell County, Texas, USA, north of Austin. The 58-mile coastline is completely inBell County And it is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the state of Texas.
The US Army Corps of Engineers, which maintains the lake, began construction in June 1962 and completed the project in July 1963. The lake was first known as Lampasas Lake, named after the river Lampa, whose water flows into it. Stillhouse Hollow Lake was built when a new dam was built on the San Jacinto River, a major source of water for the state of Texas.
It remains a playground for wildlife, pensioners and recreational seekers, and the clear waters of the lake offer anglers a choice of fish. Small foot and channel catfish can be fished all year round - they are more common in winter, while white perch appear in early spring.
On the eastern shore of the lake there is a marina that offers boats and equipment, and several boat ramps are located around the lake. Summer vacationers can choose from a variety of fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and other activities.
Enjoy the sun rays, spread out a towel, have a sandcastle, measure yourself on the shore or on the beach.
The clear water also offers beginners a good opportunity for snorkeling, and for beginners there are apartment complexes available that allow a quick trip to the water. Water rats have so much room to sail, ski and sail on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Grab your kids and glide through the water on water skis, perfect your wakeboarding skills or try to push your friends in colorful tubes.
If you want to explore the nearby forest and observe the wildlife, there are many possibilities. The Dana Peak Trail is a great option for horse lovers who seek solitude in the northern part of the park. Slip into a sturdy walking book and hike along this 5-km trail that winds through tall trees and old suspension bridges to discover picturesque waterfalls.
With a little luck, you can see pigeons, waterfowl, rabbits and quails in the forest, but hunters have a much better chance of seeing deer, elk, coyotes, wolves or bears. The trail is open all year round - and those looking for peace under the stars can also camp.
Put up your tent, unroll your warm sleeping bag and listen to the revelers howling quietly under the bright gaze of the moon.
