About Lake Arlington

Originally designed as a water supply for flood control, Lake Arlington has quickly become a popular fishing and boating destination. Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, it meets the needs of the city of Arlington and many other surrounding communities.

The reservoir is used to prevent flooding in heavy rain and ensures a reliable water supply for the residents. Overlooking nearly 2000 hectares of land, several small residential complexes offer high-quality living with lake views. In a dry climate with few natural lakes, Lake Arlington is an ideal place for cool breezes, sunsets and warm summer days.

The lake is owned by the city of Arlington and several communities use the water from the lake regularly. To the west, in Arlington, the area is decidedly urban and suburban, but several small residential complexes and a few small commercial buildings surround the lake.

One of the parks has lighting that can accommodate up to 60 people, and there is so much water that the mundane activities surrounding the use of this precious water are barely noticed by the many who come to enjoy a shady picnic in the sea breeze.

Swimming is not allowed in the lake, but the yacht club on the east shore has almost as long a history as Lake Arlington and is one of the most popular places in Texas.

For a small fee you can swim, paddle, paddle, canoe, boat or even swim in the lake for up to two hours at a time.

Although the waterfront is privately owned and seven miles of coastline within three urban parks, the city of Arlington has kept its relief above the flood water line. The newly designated Lake Arlington Paddling Trail was created specifically to attract visitors in canoes and kayaks. Much of the coast is untouched, grasses and shrubs provide shelter for a large number of wildlife and there is water in most areas.

The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife has stocked Florida perches in the past and fishermen like to catch them. Although they are not as fertile here as in Texas reservoirs, anglers are happy to take up the challenge.

Lake Arlington is home to a variety of camping options, and sports enthusiasts will find attractions nearby, including Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Texas A & M University and the University of Texas at Arlington. The Lake Park and Recreation Center of the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department offers camping and swimming. Nearby attractions for sports fans include the football and basketball stadiums of Texas Tech University and baseball and football games of the Texas Longhorns. Less than 20 miles east is Austin-San Antonio International Stadium, home to the Houston Texans football team and the Dallas Stars basketball team. Lakelington is home to more than 1,000 miles of hiking trails and trails, as well as a number of lakes.

Adults will find something to suit them at the newly renovated Arlington Music Hall, and children of all ages will find something to suit them at the Arlington Museum of Natural History and the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department's Lake Arlington Park.

When it comes to shopping, the entire Lake Arlington area is filled with exciting and interesting shopping malls, often hosting special events and shows. Arlington offers a number of local parks and festivals throughout the year, and fans are drawn to the big events sponsored year-round - around the Mesquite Pro Rodeo east of Dallas.

Golf lovers will find an excellent 18-hole course north of Lake Arlington, and given the amenities nearby, it's no wonder the housing development offers good value for money. After nearly a decade of drought, which convinced local politicians that reliable water supplies were a worthwhile investment, Lakelington was founded in the early 1990 "s.

Although the naysayers claimed that the newly created reservoir would never be filled, a 100-year-long rainstorm filled the lake and prevented massive flooding. The resulting warm water provided an attractive location for fish and cool weather, and fishermen often sought out the spouts to try their luck. It is a small private reservoir, but it also supplies cooling water to nearby fossil-fuel power plants.

The Tarrant Regional Water District distributes water used by various communities for both use and irrigation. Regional waters must monitor how much water is absorbed, and lake levels vary accordingly.

No area is complete without a day on the water, and no place is more convenient than Lake Arlington. The Lakelington area offers all kinds of accommodations, including a ranch not far from the city, as well as a number of hotels.
