About Kentucky Lake
Kentucky Lake is one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States, measuring about 2,000 square kilometers (2,400 square miles) and stretching from the south - the western tip of Kentucky to Tennessee. Kentucky Lake was founded in 1944, and the Kentucky Dam flows into the Tennessee River near Gilbertville, Kentucky.
The average summer pool is 359 feet above sea level, and the winter pool averages 354 feet, but for many anglers Kentucky Lake is a dream come true. The reservoir currently holds more than 1.5 million cubic meters of water per day and is also named after the Kentucky River, the largest freshwater lake in the United States.
Due to the warm temperatures in the area, the fishing season is year-round and the large fish population combined with the size of the lake promises a great fishing experience even when the bait boxes of the anglers are empty.
Boaters can bring their own boat or rent one from any marina in the area, but either way it will be a lot of fun. During the canal trip, boaters love the beautiful landscape that stretches out in front of them and the fingertips of the lake. Make it even more exciting, resulting in an incredible 2,380 miles of coastline to explore. If you're looking for a little more excitement, jump on your boat and enjoy a fast-paced ride through the canal system or even a short walk along the coast and then jump back into the water.
When it's time to slow down, you'll spot white deer, painted turtles, shoals of bald eagles and even a few birds of prey.
Before you set sail, get a good map of Kentucky Lake and observe the buoys to avoid shallow areas and dangers of navigation. The old Tennessee River Channel runs along the northern end of the lake, so watch it from the shore and avoid the flat area, a danger to shipping, and the old railroad tracks. Kentucky Lake and adjacent Barkley Lake are surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Kentucky National Wildlife Refuge.
More than 200 km of paved hiking trails offer some of the most spectacular views in the country. The LBL leisure area also offers a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing and mountain biking.
The nearby town of Paducah in Kentucky is home to one of the largest lakes in the USA, Kentucky Lake. The two lakes are connected by a network of 2000 km of paths and are connected by the Kentucky River, the second largest river in Kentucky.
It is almost impossible to participate in all the activities at Kentucky Lake, but you have the choice between pleasure and enjoyment. The extensive coastline includes a number of water parks and a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing. The Venture River Family Water Park attracts families to cool off from the hot summer sun and swim in the Kentucky River.
