About Lake Moultrie

Lake Moultrie is located in the US state of South Carolina, south of Charlotte, North Carolina. The lake is known for its fishing and natural beauty, and offers visitors the opportunity to experience one of the largest freshwater lakes in North America with an average depth of 2,000 feet.

Lake Moultrie was founded in the 1940s as part of the Santee Cooper River Seizure Project in South Carolina. The seizure helped to use the river for hydropower and created a shipping route between Columbia and Charleston by boat. The project was called the "Santee Cooper Project" because it involved the construction of a new dam on the Columbia River, which was the largest in North America at the time and the first of its kind in a lake.

Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion together have a coastline of about 450 miles, and Santee Cooper, the company that manages the lake, has pledged to protect 70 percent of the riverbank from development. As a bonus, it now offers an oasis for wildlife and allows visitors to enjoy undisturbed swamp and forest habitat. The development around the lake has been carefully planned to protect the adjacent wildlife.

Lake Moultrie offers world-class fishing, and fishermen can enjoy the open waters. The windy conditions, similar to those on the sea, often offer great opportunities for deep sea fishing and shallow shallow water for small and medium sized fish.

The lake is known for its catfish and still holds the world record for catfish at 58 pounds. The record - the Arkansas blue catfish was also pulled from the lake's waters.

Fishing is a year-round pleasure, as South Carolina's mild winters keep the lake from freezing to death. The state is a record-breaking one - perch, perch, blue fish and catfish have all been found in Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion.
A unique aspect of Lake Moultrie is its access to the lake via the Cooper River. The river is the gateway to nearby Charleston, and boaters can reach it through the Pinopolis Lock and Tailrace Canal and drop off from the shore, where catfish often gather in shallow water at sunset. Fishermen can reach them by boat from Charleston or Charleston - the area's cities such as Greenville, Charleston and Charleston.

Swimming, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking are just some of the ways nature is connected to the lake, and boaters can do a lot without leaving it. The 175 miles of Berkeley County Blueways, connected to Lake Moultrie, offer nature lovers the chance to experience the flat land from a boat, just as the early settlers might have had their boats.

Hiking enthusiasts should not miss the hiking trails on the shore of the lake, most of which offer a view from above.

Francis Marion National Forest is a hiking paradise, and the 250,000-acre park borders the states of North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as the Georgia Line. There are rudimentary campsites along the way, and while some trails lead through wildlife management areas, walkers have been spotted with deer, elk, coyotes, foxes and other wildlife such as bears and wolves.

The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with more than 280 species of birds waiting to be discovered. The park has hiking trails and a number of bird-friendly campsites, such as the one at the top of the hill.

Hunting is very common in the forest around the lake, and after a busy day of forest visits there is no shortage of sleeping places for the night. The area around Lake Moultrie offers numerous opportunities for visitors to enjoy it as a place for hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing, kayaking and other outdoor activities. With its lakeside cabins, hiking trails and a number of campgrounds, Lake Moultries is a great opportunity for camping and fishing in one of South Carolina's most scenic areas.

The Santee area is famous for its golf courses, so you should not miss a visit to this historic country. Whether fishing, hunting, golfing or hiking, there are many opportunities to enjoy the rugged beauty of Lake Moultrie. Just minutes away by car or boat, Lake Charleston is just a one-minute drive away and a great place to marvel at the abundant natural beauty. Make sure you're on the road when exploring the beautiful scenery of South Carolina's most scenic areas, such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
