About Paulina Lake

Paulina Lake is located in the high desert state of Oregon and is a sparkling lake with an average depth of about 300 meters. The lake is also located on the Oregon-Washington border, north of the state's border with Washington.

Mount Newberry is located on the east side of Lake Paulina, about 1,500 meters above sea level and about 300 meters below the surface of the lake.

Mount Newberry is a shield volcano that has reached its unusual shape due to repeated eruptions. The last eruption occurred about 2,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest active volcanoes in the United States. The seismic and hydrothermal activity that continues in Lake Paulina offers a good chance that the volcano will erupt again at some point. Archaeologists have found evidence that Native Americans visited both Pauline Lake and Newberries Crater in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as early as the mid-19th century.

At Newberry Crater, locals came to extract obsidian, which was used as a tool, as well as other minerals such as gold, silver and copper.

Paulina Lake is named after Paulina, a renegade Shoshone Indian chief who frequently attacked white Native American settlements in Oregon in the mid-19th century. Newberry Mountain Crater was named in honor of John Newberry, the physician, geologist and naturalist who crossed Oregon on a cartography expedition in 1855. In 1826, a fur trapper named Peter Skene from Ogden with his wife and two children became the first registered visitor to the lake.

Paulina Lake borders Newberry Mountain Crater to the north, Newberries Mountain to the south and Newland Mountain and Shoshone Indian Reservation to the west.

Paulina Creek is the outflow of Paulina Lake and there are tributaries to the lake, and decades of erosion have carved a canyon into the west wall of the crater, creating the picturesque Paulinas Falls. The water supply to Newberry Mountain Crater and Newberries Mountain continues throughout the fall and relies on rain and melting snow from the spring to supply water.

Thermal springs, created for public use, are mixed with cold seawater for safety, and the temperatures in the springs can range from 95 to 175 degrees. The thermal springs and Paulinas waterfalls are located on the north-eastern shore.

Fishermen and sailors can find berths and campsites, and during fishing days and hours a maximum speed of 10 km / h is allowed. There are several campsites, including Paulinas Lake Campground, a 1,000 square meter campsite. The campsite's amenities include a swimming pool, picnic tables, showers and toilets, and access to the waterfalls.

Boat toilets are prohibited as the toilets make waste harmless and become unusable due to the sealed sockets and the lack of proper ventilation.

Lake Paulina is easy to fish throughout and is therefore a popular destination for anglers looking for brown trout, rainbow trout and coca. On July 1, 2009, a 27 pound brown trout was caught, setting a new national record. The price was used for hatcheries in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, and the price fish was also caught in Paulinas Lake in 1989.

The ingredients for a perfect family holiday are easily found in and around Lake Paulinersee, such as fresh water, fresh fruit and vegetables and a wide selection of fish.

Leisure activities include hiking, cycling, horse riding, skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The campsites at Resort Lake Paulina are open all year round, but the roads are closed in the winter months, although snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are available to snowmobilers at Newberry Crater and Pauline Lake.

Lava Butte is an eruption formation of cinder cones that spans nine square kilometers, and the Great Obsidian Flow is the largest in the country. Lava Cast Forest is a lava forest that has formed and cooled from long-ago trees and - must be - from dead volcanic ash. L Lava River Cave is a long lava tube that shows the solidified crust that once surrounded a channel of flowing lava.

Three Rivers offers apartments and houses for hunting, fishing, hiking and winter skiing, and you will find two holiday resorts. The beautiful community of Sunriver is located in the heart of Paulina Lake, north of Portland, Oregon, USA. It is known as one of the most beautiful and scenic communities in Oregon and the second most popular ski resort in America.

Continue 20 miles northwest of Sunriver and enter the Three Sisters Wilderness Area on the north side of Paulina Lake. The middle sister holds Collier Glacier, Oregon's largest glacier, and the north and middle to south sides rise above 10,000 feet at the northeastern end of the wilderness. Around 260 kilometres of hiking trails traverse this wilderness, including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cascade - Siskiyou National Forest and much more.

The small community of La Pine is crossed by two rivers known for trout fishing and challenging canoeing and kayaking, the Columbia and Willamette. A short drive north of Lake Paulina will take you to the fast-growing communities of Bend. La Pine is surrounded by the Cascade - Siskiyou National Forest, the largest national forest in Oregon. The Columbia River, known as the rainbow trout stream, is characterized by signs of volcanic activity. Bring winter and summer sports enthusiasts to Jefferson, Diamond Peak and Washington's Bachelor.

With more than 263 days of sunshine, the dry climate in eastern Oregon has attracted large numbers of retirees and remains one of the most popular vacation destinations in the state and the nation.

The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, also known as Oregon Highway to the Sky, starts in Bend and takes you on a 66-mile drive from Bend to Deschutes National Forest, along the lake and reservoir.

This scenic loop takes you to Bend, where you will find your preferred break from the hinterland and great views of Cascade Lakes and the Deschutes National Forest.

You will find a wide selection of holiday apartments to complete your desert experience. This community of 82,000 people offers live theater with a little less rigor, but if adventure is your passion, wait until you drive to the small town of Paulina Lake, Oregon, north of Bend. Central Oregon has a variety of options to choose from, from rippling streams and scenic views of Cascade Lakes and Deschutes National Forest to hiking, biking, camping, fishing and more.
