Canton Lake is a lake in northwest Oklahoma's Red Carpet Country, named after the red earth. Built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Canton Lake is one of Oklahoma State's most popular tourist attractions for people who are simply looking for beautiful scenery.

Canton Lake is located in the Red Carpet Country of Oklahoma State, just north of the Oklahoma-Texas border, about 30 miles north - west of Tulsa.

Recreation is the biggest attraction at Canton Lake and has attracted thousands of visitors over the years from as far away as New York, California and Texas. Oklahoma City pays for the release of water when it needs it, as well as the construction of a water treatment plant for the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University.

The Corps of Engineers operates five multipurpose recreation areas, and each area offers day trips, including picnics. The wide, calm waters are ideal for water skiing, while the gently sloping sandy beaches and sandy beach at the north end of Canton Lake are ideal for swimming and sunbathing, as well as kayaking and canoeing.

Water lovers can also enjoy the beauty of the lake by crossing Canton Dam and swimming in the shallow, calm waters at the south end. At the north end of Cantons Lake is a small sandy beach overlooking the Oklahoma City River and the Oklahoma State Capitol building.

Canton Lake hosts a budget rodeo every year in May, usually the weekend before Mother's Day, attracting between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors to the area around Lake Cantonese every day. Canton is widely known for its Walliye eggs and has become so popular that they have been stored in other lakes in Oklahoma. The lake is home to a large number of fish and bird species, as well as a variety of other bird species.

Hunters go to the area around the cantonal lake all year round to hunt - round houses and lake houses are available for apartments, but anyone who comes to the forest adventure rodeo must plan well in advance. The Canton Wildlife Management Area is operated by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. It borders Lake Cantonese, Cotontail Lake and the Great Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

Hunters can see deer, elk, elk, coyote, bear, wolf, wild boar, fox and other wildlife throughout the year, as well as a variety of birds of prey such as coyotes, bears, wolves and deer.

Canton is within the flood plain, but habitat varies from one end to the other, and Canton is in the flood plain of the Oklahoma River and its watershed.

In the western part of the WMA, sage and willow trees with a variety of grasses, shrubs, trees and other plant species form the habitat. At the eastern end there is a mixture of sage, willow, pine, oak, elm, pine, cedar, oak, hickory, balsam fir, sawflower, juniper, cotton, blackberry, clover, hazelnut, birch, red cedar, spruce, ferns, rhododendron, orchids and a number of other tree species.

Roman Nose State Park Lodge is located on the west side of Canton Lake, south of the entrance to the WMA. This place was once the winter camp of the Cheyenne tribe and is now a popular destination for hiking, camping, fishing and other activities. In 2009 the main hut will be renovated, the remaining huts will remain open.

TB Ferguson House is also located in Watonga and there is even a teepee rental service in the summer months. Roman Nose State Park also offers camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and other activities. The park has a number of hiking and fishing trails as well as a variety of picnic areas and camping sites. This will be completed in connection with the construction of a new parking lot for the hut, which will also be offered by the Römerpark.

Ferguson was the longest serving governor in the country from November 1901 to January 1906, and his greatest contribution was his commitment to the statehood of Oklahoma. There is a magnificently renovated Victorian house from 1907, where Thomas T. Ferguson, the first governor of Texas, lived. It is one of only a handful of homes in Texas with its own entrance to the state Capitol.

North of Canton Lake is the town of Fairview, and the Major County Historical Society Museum is one of the most important historical sites in Oklahoma State. The site features a brick walkway with the names of the people and businesses who have helped Major's County prosper over the past 100 years.
