About Senecaville Reservoi

Senecaville Lake, also known as Seneca Lake, is located on the eastern bank of the Ohio River in the US state of Ohio. With 3,550 hectares, it is the third largest inland lake in Ohio and the second largest in North America after Lake Erie.

The city of Cambridge is located on the shores of Senecaville Lake, near the birthplace of astronaut and senator John Glenn in 1962.

Senecaville Lake was founded in 1938 by engineers from the US Army Corps after they had occupied the Seneca Fork of Wills Creek for the Senecville Dam. In 1939 the lake reached its full water level, in 1940 it was opened for fishing, in 1941 again.

Today, Lake Senecaville is a major recreational destination, and the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) controls recreation of the lake, including boating, swimming, camping and picnicking.

The horsepower limit at Senecaville Lake is 399 horsepower, compared to 299 in 2008, and there is no residential development on the lake. Public fishing and hunting rights in the MWCD are leased to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Lake Seneca offers numerous recreational fishing opportunities.

Fishing takes place at the reservoir from 15 February to 15 April, and anglers can enjoy a full day of fishing at Senecaville Lake in the summer and winter months.

The Wildlife Department operates 37 hectares of fish brood in Senecaville, which is open to the public for guided tours. The breeding ground breeds suckers, Valais, hybrid perches and catfish and covers a total of 4000 acres (2500 square miles) of water.

The accommodation consists of cottages and more than 500 campsites, and Lake Senecaville is the largest of the MWCD lakes. The park and campsite on Lake Seneca offer a variety of activities, such as kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, camping and fishing.

Marina Seneca is a fully equipped marina with a restaurant, bar and a full service restaurant. The Marinas restaurant is open all year round and hosts events such as the annual Senecaville Boat Show and Lake Senecaville Festival.

Seneca Lake Park is a year-round venue for special events, including the Fourth of July fireworks display. In mid-October, when the leaves reach their peak in bright colours, pontoon boats take visitors to the lake's ghost islands. Every year, Annie and her husband John, a family of two, visit the water for a few days.

The Corps of Engineers welcomes guided tours of the Senecaville Dam, including the reception structure and flood control facilities. You can relax and watch the sunset on the horizon while surrounded by the surrounding area, overlooking Lake Erie and the Ohio River to the east.
