Delaware Lake is a central reservoir in the Ohio River Basin designed and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The 1938 Flood Protection Act approved the Ohio River plan, and construction of the Delaware Dam was completed in 1948. The lake was poured out of the ground in 1951 and filled with water from Delaware Lake, the second largest lake in Ohio.

The lake, located north of the capital Columbus, was designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Today it is an important leisure destination offering a variety of leisure activities, such as fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing. Delaware Lake covers 963 hectares and covers 3.2 million square kilometres of land with a total area of 6.4 million hectares.

The Delaware Dam is located north of the city of Delaware, Ohio, and the reservoir is part of a dam system designed to reduce the risk of flooding in the Olentangy - Scioto Ohio basin.

The Corps of Engineers maintains Delaware Lake at summer pool level from April to September, and then begins lowering water levels in October. Water levels in the winter basin are maintained by using flood water from the reservoir through melting snow from winter and spring rain.

Delaware Lake is one of the best lakes in Ohio for fishing, and anglers hunting for white and black kratties have access to a variety of fish species, from small mouthfish to large perch. The lake is also a hot spot for bass tournaments and was voted among the top 10 in the state. This area is also ideal for suckling pig fishing, as it is home to some of Ohio's best perch and white perch.

The Ohio Division of Parks and Recreation operates a number of facilities on Delaware Lake, including the Delaware County Fish and Wildlife Department and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The wildlife department also operates and maintains a shooting range and public hunting grounds, mainly on the eastern side of the lake. It is worth noting that a valid Ohio fishing license is required for fishing, boating, hunting and other recreational activities on or near the lake. The State Park also operates campsites for which electricity is available in all locations, and guests can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Autumn brings the bright autumn leaves in mid-October and in winter it offers a warm and sunny summer with the possibility of snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing. Hiking, hiking and other outdoor activities are also a plus for visitors to Delaware Lake.

Delaware State Park offers attractive and clean public facilities in northern Delaware, Ohio. The landscape offers a variety of interesting forest areas, ideal for nature lovers. It offers scenic views of the Delaware River and Ohio River Valley, as well as the Great Lakes and Lake Erie.

The State Park is a perfect area for everyone, from children to adults, and has a large parking lot and beautiful grounds. The picnic area near the Delaware Lake Dam is open all day, with toilets and a playground. South of the State Park, the dam offers a magnificent view of the lake and the surrounding area. This park is an ideal place for picnics and groups, as well as has large picnic areas, picnic tables, playgrounds and other amenities.

Patrons can reserve accommodation at the USACE office, and large group rooms, playgrounds and toilets are available. The picnic area is open from 12 noon to 5 pm on weekends and holidays.

The most popular choice for cyclists is the easy parking road, but if you prefer it drier, you can ride on the state and municipal roads. Visitors can also paddle the Olentangy River, which runs from the dam to the capital Columbus and merges with the Scioto River.

Public hunting and fishing is permitted in designated areas, but of course in Ohio a hunting license is required, as well as a fishing license.

The Delaware Lake area is a walking pleasure with footpaths, parks and dams, but walking through the dam area is not for the faint of heart, unless it is part of training to walk over a dam.

Overall, the State Park is a rich place to admire the flora and fauna of the area, and visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping and fishing.
