About Eastman Lake

Eastman Lake is a western New Hampshire resort surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Eastman Mountain Range. Nestled in the heart of the mountains just a few miles north of New York City, it is also a fantastic year-round hiking and camping destination.

Eastman Lake, also known as Eastman Pond, is a reservoir created by a dam owned by the Eastmen Community Association (ECA).

The Steinbach is the primary tributary of the lake, and it is located at its outflow, but the lake is two - and - one - half a kilometer long and two and a half kilometers wide.

The surface of the lake is surrounded by three islands, the largest of which provides a place to dock a boat for an afternoon picnic.

There is a public boat ramp at the southern end of the lake, and Eastman Township surrounds it with residential developments, including vacation rentals and properties for sale. The sandy beach on the lake is owned by ECA and is only accessible to members.

Fishing is popular, and Eastman Pond has some of the best trout in New Hampshire, as well as a variety of other fish species. The high position of the lake and its proximity to the shore ensure that the water remains calm and peaceful, but anglers can also compete in the shallow waters on the north and south sides.

In addition to the residential buildings, the lake is surrounded by hiking and cycling trails, which are used for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter, and a golf course and tennis courts complete the leisure facilities.

Most of Eastman Lake is located in Grantham and a small part of Enfield, but the town of Enfield was chartered in 1761 by Wentworth Benning, the first governor of New Hampshire and one of England's original founders.

Three decades later, in 1793, the Shakers joined forces to form the ninth original Shaker community. At the height of their community, about 300 members practiced celibacy, gender equality and pacifism.

The Shakers settled on the west bank of nearby Lake Mascoma and named the area around Lake Mount Assurance after the valley they chose. In the 1850s 3,000 hectares of it had been cultivated and in 1923 they sold the village to a Catholic priest who occupied the parish until 1985.

Today it houses the Enfield Shaker Museum and the museum offers an exceptional day trip to Eastman Pond. Visitors can spend the day in furniture, tools and clothes, wander through herb and flower gardens, hike to the "Shaker Festival Square" and spend a day with the Shakers in their homes.

Henry Laramie, formerly of Enfield, is a forest pond consisting of forests and ponds and covers an area of about 1,500 hectares.

Eastman Lake is home to white-tailed deer, elk, elk, coyote, wolf, fox and other wildlife.

This swamp area was established in 1957 and covers 609 hectares in Grafton County and is home to a large number of waterfowl.

Eastman Lake offers exceptional leisure activities and a trip there will certainly be a popular destination. Add to that the surrounding wildlife reserves and the hundreds of acres of wetlands that cover the lake's banks, and the wetlands of Henry Laramie Pond, the largest freshwater lake in New Hampshire.
