About St Marys Lake
Saint Mary Lake is 3900 hectares long and is one of the most visited lakes in the United States. The popular north side of this lake goes to the Sonnenstraße and the south side to a small lake on the west side.
The road has several points where you can reach the water by car, and two campsites in this part of the park are accessible from the same road. The nearly 10-mile long lake offers a great view of the surrounding peaks, including the glacier, which is seen from tour boats that take tourists and hikers along the length of this lake. We have chosen the route of the Sun Road to take advantage of the exceptional views of the glaciers, so as not to disappoint you with the sights of Saint Mary Lake.
The lake reaches a depth of 300 feet and is one of the largest lakes in the USA with an average length of 10 miles, but it is very lucky for anglers to find it. Saint Mary Lake is the second largest lake in Yellowstone National Park and the third largest in Montana, covering a total of 1.5 million square miles. The lake does not get much pressure from the campsites at the foot of the shore, so it is estimated that it is among the fishermen with less than half the available statistics.
Since the water rarely gets warmer than 50 degrees and the choppy waves make swimming difficult, most of the floating tubes and canoes do not feel good. Only a few motor boats sail on the lake and only one launch pad is trebe, so that motor boats are almost necessary for successful fishing, since there are no whitefish in the shallow shore area.
In winter, the lake usually freezes over and visitors do not swim in it due to the cold temperatures, but in summer it warms up to about 50 degrees.
The campsite offers evening programs and activities planned by the same rangers, and many popular hiking trails start from the campsites. Excursion boats and concessions are located on the east side of the lake, near the entrance to Rose Lake and at the north end of St. Mary's Lake.
A storage room and a small restaurant are also located here, and St. Marys Campground is located on the east side of the lake, near the entrance to Rose Lake. A free shuttle service stopping at the campsite on the Sonnenstraße makes this hotel an excellent place for hiking in the surrounding area.
There is no water or toilets, but in winter primitive camping is possible, and campers must obtain a pass from local rangers. The campsite accepts reservations, but the places are limited to the day camping "first - come first come, first served."
In honor of local Indian culture, Blackfeet, Salish and Kootenai tribesmen participate in the Native American Speaks program, which features artists, local drummers and dancers performing at the St. Mary's Visitor Center. Saint Marys Falls is a hiking trail that can be reached by shuttle bus, and the view can be reached from the end of the trail by shuttle buses or excursion boats. On the boat trips It is 1.5 km per foot, but it can also walk up to 5 km (3.6 km) per day.
The road to Lake Otokomi is a good five kilometres long and Baring Falls is only an hour from the shuttle stop. The trail leads to Virginia Falls, which hikers in the hinterland must pass to stay in the park. After 2.2 miles and a sign, Virginia Falls is on the same path, but only 1.5 km (0.6 km) from St. Marys Falls.
The Sun Point Nature Trail leads seven kilometers from the Sun Point parking lot by the lake to Lake Otokomi, the largest lake in St. Marys Lake National Park.
Wildlife is abundant and moose, bears and wolves are often seen, but not everyone wants to camp or stay. The concessionaire who operates the hotel facilities in the park operates motels, lodges and cabins right next to the visitor center. Some areas of the parks offer many possibilities for more modern accommodation. During the season, when it is open, you have access to a variety of campsites, such as St. Marys Lake Campground and Lake Otokomi Campground.
Food, gas and gifts are also available at the visitor center, as well as many hotels and cabins in the park, such as St. Marys Lodge.
Although dogs are not allowed on the trails in the park, the large chain campsites in this area offer dog-friendly camping and a variety of other amenities. The staff of Glacier National Park at St. Marys Lodge, Glacier Lodge and Glacier Campground are all accommodated in Glacier Park.
Several small restaurants are also thriving here, such as the popular St. Marys Cafe and the local cafe, the Coffee House.
Most cities have neighborhood bars, but the entire area is geared toward tourism and welcomes visitors from outside the park.
Much of the area is in the Blackfeet reserve, so those who want to wake up in the morning and enjoy mountain views can buy properties in the area. Several ranches offer a variety of accommodations, such as St. Marys Lodge, a small hotel with a private pool and spa. We have a number of small motels and cafés that welcome the crowded visitors to the parks, as well as a few restaurants.
Some houses do not have a lakefront in Saint Mary Lake, such as St. Marys Lodge, a small hotel with a private pool and spa, and Lakeview Lodge.
There is never a lack of activities and attractions in the park outside, and the winter season brings more accessible trails for snowshoeing. In the warmer months, you can often find one or two rodeos nearby, but you can also spend your holidays at the ranch. The river area offers a variety of activities, such as rafting, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and much more.
You should bring hiking boots, binoculars and camera, as well as a pair of hiking shoes, hat, gloves, sun cream, hatchet, shovel, water bottle and water.
