Longview Lake in northwest Missouri is one of the largest lakes in the USA and the second largest in North America. The 930-acre lake is located on the shores of Lake Missouri and offers outdoor amenities for almost every purpose. Built in 1884 as a result of an agreement between the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and St. Louis County, it presents the best of both worlds: natural beauty, scenic views and scenic beauty. Congress approved funding for the dam and reservoir, but it was never built because of a lack of federal funding.

When the project was officially opened in 1986, many of the leisure facilities were developed and ready for visitors in the late 1990s.

Longview Lake is a destination for boating, swimming, fishing and camping in this growing suburban community. Boating is fun, but there are certain limitations: you have to put a boat sticker on your boat engine. The menu offers a variety of food and drinks, as well as a wide range of activities for children.

Windsurfing is only allowed from Monday to Thursday and is prohibited on Fridays, weekends and public holidays. Stand up paddle boards are not allowed, as are kayaks, paddle boards or other forms of paddle boarding.

Two public boat moorings allow for departures for a fee, and a full-service concession port sells gas in the port, as well as a gas station and a grocery store on the shore.

A one acre sandy beach offers many swimming opportunities for all ages at Longview Lake. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing.

Fourteen large picnic huts scattered throughout the park can be reserved for family celebrations and special occasions. Several miles of paved trails vie for visitors "attention, including the Longview Lake Trail, a 1.5-mile trail from the lake to the parking lot. For many summer weekends, it is recommended to book a campsite, but for some other events, a campsite reservation and a camping permit are required.

In summer, the area hosts the Tour de Lakes Bike Ride, which runs partly around Longview Lake. It is not a real cycling race, but participants can choose between several different routes of different lengths and do not have to register. The Metropolitan Community College Longview campus offers a variety of activities for children and adults, as well as a variety of events for adults. Loula was a well-known rider and was inducted into the Madison Square Gardens Hall of Fame. At the end of her life, she and her sister Sally donated the land to Longview Community College.

The family home and other farm buildings are in the custody of the New Longview Foundation, while the property is often rented out for weddings and social events. The US Army Corps of Engineers bought part of a farm near Longview Lake, and the other part was sold to a developer to bolster the local housing industry.
