Ross Barnett Reservoir, locally known as Rez, is located in the western part of the state of Mississippi, near the Mississippi River and its tributaries. The 33,000-acre reservoir was formed in 1965, when the Pearl River was dammed to supply water to the city of Jackson. Ross Barnett Reservoir is less than 20 miles from downtown Jackson and offers a variety of recreational activities including fishing, boating, hiking, camping and fishing.

Ross Barnett Reservoir is relatively shallow, with an average depth of about 12 feet, but there's something for everyone. Well over two million people visit the reservoir each year, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), and well over 1.5 million visitors annually.
