About Otsego Lake

As visitors gaze out over Otsego Lake, the low drone of the planes in the distance grows louder and louder. Those who are new to the scene quickly realize that the airplanes are seaplanes, which soon turn out to be airplanes gently falling into the lake. The rolling mountains cover a large area north of the city of Otsuno, Michigan, USA. Finally, a pilot stops, circles the surface of a lake and joins others on the shore, where he holds an annual seaplane splash - purely.

Lake Otsego resembles a long, slightly crooked finger, with a small lake on one side and a mountain on the other.

The geological history of the lake shows that it was formed many years ago by glaciers and therefore resembles other waters of the state. Otsego Lake State Park covers more than 1,000 acres of land, and the lakefront surrounds a little over 60 acres of the park, with half a mile of sandy beaches dedicated to it. There are children splashing about on the beach while parents bask on beach towels.

Fishermen can stand at different points of the lake and try their luck, or they can go by boat to explore different parts of the long, wide lake.

Some species that have to be patient with their appearance are the black, white and foot pigs and the blue-eyed boa constrictor.
Other species that are less common in the lake are sturgeon, whales and blue-weed toads. As you explore Otsego Lake, the wind makes its way through the grassy areas along the shore and into the water.

Although Lake Otsego is not known for its ingenious paths, you can make your own way to various lakes with walking sticks, walking shoes on your feet or even a walking stick. From the town of Gaylord, also known as the Alpine village, lush blueberry bushes rise from the grassy areas and you walk out to the lake.

This vibrant community offers both outdoor and indoor recreation for locals and visitors in both winter and summer. When the snow melts from the mountains, you can dig for wild mushrooms in the forest or even dig up wild mushrooms on the lakeside.

On a clear day, bird lovers can observe migratory birds crossing the lake's habitat, and the surrounding area around Lake Otsego can be enjoyed as the sun sets behind maple, oak and pine trees. Hidden in a closed area of gentle grassland on the west side of the lake, there is a large open area where you can watch herds of elk for hours. If the elk do not dive their velvet snouts into the Ottersee for a quick drink, the white-tailed deer can find their way to the edge of the water.

Go a step further and swim to the shallower depths and you will not regret it; it snows at full altitude in winter and warm in summer. You can also stay in the community for a day or two, swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, kayaking or even camping.

Let the day end peacefully with a canoe on the lake, chat with new friends, on the cozy veranda of your holiday apartment.
