About Long Cove

Long Lake is a lake in the Sebago Lake region that includes the city of Long Lake, Maine, USA, and parts of the cities of Penobscot Bay and Sebaget. The lake stretches for about 11 miles from Naples Maine to Harrison Maine and is 1 mile wide in some places.

Some sources describe the lake as 4,867 hectares, but some sources have described it as up to 4,867 hectares. In recent years, in particular, it has had to suffer its share of flooding due to the construction of roads and bridges.

The difference could be explained by improved satellite mapping or by changes in the size of the lake due to the construction of roads and bridges.

Long Lake is located north of Naples on the Causeway and is conveniently located with many recreational activities near the Causeway. Popular activities include fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, paddling and boat rental. Naples's public pier is within walking distance of shops and restaurants, and boats are available for hire.

Originally built for the transport of commercial and industrial goods, the canal transported passengers and steamships to and from a railway line built at the end of the 19th century. Brandy Pond connects the north of Long Lake with the south with Sebago and the Songa River Lock , so boaters can explore a lot of scenery. Song a Lock was opened in 1830 and is the first lock on Lake Sebagago operated by Casco Bay.

Today, it is used for recreational boats and tourism and is one of the oldest hand-operated locks on Lake Sebagago in the United States.

Since the completion of the construction work in 1830, the water level has risen by six to seven metres. The gate at Songa lock serves as a controlled dam, and the gate opens in November and remains open until the ice lowers the water level by about four meters.

Long Lake is a popular destination for many recreational activities, including great fishing, and an average catch of 2-4 pounds is the best in the region. Fishermen come to the lake to catch the giant mouth fish, which is also native to the lake. They weigh an average of 3 pounds, so it shouldn't surprise you to hear stories of victories of up to 8 pounds.

Also widespread in the waters around Long Lake are inland salmon, which find their way into the lake in the summer months. The scenery in Maine is breathtaking all year round, so visitors should make the most of the season. If you make it to the lake in September or October, you can fish salmon while admiring the spectacular autumn foliage.

The autumn months paint a palette of reds, oranges, yellows and browns into the landscape. The warmer months offer the best views of the lake and some of Maine's most beautiful beaches. In winter, the snow covers the country and offers breathtaking photo opportunities. Depending on the season, you can enjoy views that can be reached by car, canoe, kayak or on the water.
