About Laurel Fork

Laurel River Lake was founded by the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood protection and hydropower to neighboring areas, but has also become a popular holiday destination. The lake covers one hectare and shares a coastline with the state's Daniel Boone National Forest. It is the largest freshwater lake in Kentucky and the second largest in the United States.

The normal height of the summer pool is 1015 feet above sea level, and the normal depth on the dam is 280 feet, with an average depth of 65 feet. The maximum depth under the dams is 280 feet with an average depth of less than 65 feet.

Laurel River Lake is of unique natural beauty and is bordered by cliffs that line the shore. The steep, rugged rocks seem to disappear into the clear depths of the lake and offer a picture - a perfect photo landscape you will never forget.

One of the best ways to see the cliffs is by boat, and we had a great time by boat on Laurel River Lake in spring and summer. Boating has a life of its own here and is a great way to see the diverse wildlife on the lake. Canada geese are at home here All year round and the lake There live wintering bald eagles and many other species.

Go to the shore and give your engine a little juice to enjoy the lake at high speed, and paint your turtle as it makes its way through the trees. White - tail-shaped and lovable turtles sip a sip of the clean lake water from the shore.

The lake is known as the Mecca of rainbow trout in Kentucky, and Laurel River Lake is home to the state's best trout and some of the best salmon in the world. The winter months bring the perfect season for fishing and fishing for trout and other fish species.

Swimming is a popular pastime at the reservoir, and swimmers often use the clear water and good visibility to explore the sunken rock formations around the lake. If everyone gets a little hungry, there are picnic tables nearby where you can go before you go for a swim or a splash. Sunbathers are invited to spread their towels on the sand on a public beach with access to the beach.

More than 80 km of hiking trails wind through the forest, perched on rocks and leave hikers lonely campsites. Nature lovers will feel at home by the lake in the heart of Kentucky, just a few miles north of Louisville, Kentucky. Taking one of the paths, you feel like you are transported back to a time when Kentucky was an unexplored frontier, where pine trees and animals lived, where pine trees had never seen a human face.

Laurel River Lake is a place to escape the beauty and richness of nature and to complete the fun by watching the painted sunsets reflected in the water.
