About Brookville Lake
Brookville Lake is located in the heart of the Whitewater River Valley and is a beautiful body of water that offers beautiful views of Lake Michigan, the Great Lakes and the Indiana River. The lake is considered one of the most scenic Indian lakes and is located only a few kilometers from the city of Brookville, Indiana, USA.
With a wide range of activities, there are many avid outdoor lovers who enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Michigan, the Great Lakes and the Indiana River. Located in the heart of the Whitewater River Valley of Indiana, USA, just a few miles from the city, Brookville Lake offers 5260 acres of recreational activities including fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping and fishing.
The Brookville Dam was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and approved under the Flood Control Act of 1938. The earth-filled dam height is begging at 181 feet, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 cubic feet of water per second.
Indiana has signed a contract with the Corps to supply water to the area, and Brookville Lake will be lowered to a level of a winter pool to provide drainage from heavy rains to protect downstream property and life.
The recreational use of Brookville Lake is of considerable value, with excellent summer and winter fishing exciting for anglers. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has been stocking the lake with whale muskies and striped bass for several years, and the tail of the water has been stocked with brown and rainbow trout for several years.
Brookville Lake is surrounded by eighteen recreational areas offering a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, camping, hiking, hunting, canoeing, kayaking and fishing.
White - Tailed deer and wild turkeys are plentiful in this part of Indiana, as well as archery and rifle shooting. Duck and goose hunting is also very good during the season on the lake and its tributaries. Birdwatching, geocaching and hunting are also popular activities for visitors who love outdoor fun.
Waterfowl, waders, songbirds and birds of prey found in the Brookville Lake area include ducks, geese, turkeys, owls, eagles, hawks, peregrine falcons and other birds.
Ospreys and red-tailed hawks are common, and if you are patient you will probably see bald eagles around the lake and hear the nocturnal calls of little owls. There are bees scattered across the lake throughout Brookville, as well as a variety of birds of prey such as hawks, peregrine falcons and ospreys.
