About Carters Lake
Carters Lake is one of the youngest Great Lakes in Georgia and is located on the east side of Carters Lake State Park, north of Atlanta, Georgia. The lake is home to the largest freshwater lake in the USA and offers a variety of water sports including fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and fishing.
Carter Dam is the largest earth-filled dam in the United States with a capacity of 1.5 million cubic feet per second. It is embedded with water that flows through pipes every day to generate electricity, and then pumped to generators that recycle the water the next day.
Six public boat ramps are available to boaters, and designated areas have been developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide visitors with the opportunity to relax on the lake shore and in the park's water park. There are many parks that make it a great destination for families who want to have fun on and off the water, whether they are fishing, swimming, boating or just relaxing.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is actively stocking the lake with whales, striped bass and hybrid perch. Fishermen can also see perch, bluefish, white perch and other fish species on the shore. The lake was completed by the damming of the Coosawattee River, which flows from Tennessee to Georgia.
Although coastal fishing at Carters Lake is restricted due to the steep terrain, anglers have additional fishing opportunities on the eastern side of the lake.
The private jetty has interfered with the natural shoreline of the lake, but the beautiful, sloping hills provide the perfect natural setting away from it all. Look north and east of Carters Lake for a magnificent view of the mountains and the dam. This beautiful lake in the heart of Georgia, just a short drive from Atlanta, is truly one of Georgia's best kept secrets. Kilometres of hiking, biking and nature trails stretch along the lake shore, as well as an extensive network of trails and trails on the east and west sides of Lake Fuhrmann.
Carters Lake is home to many exciting nature walks, including the Oak Ridge Trail, which runs along the lakeside and ends in a creek. If you are looking for the most scenic route, take the Carters Lake Nature Trail, which is located near the visitor center.
Another great walking trail in the area is Tumbling Waters, which takes hikers to one of the few waterfalls not hidden behind the lake. Even leisurely hikers can take an easy hike that leads visitors to a beaver pond.
The lake has a rich background of Native American and Civil War, with several important historical sites nearby, including well-preserved Cherokee ruins and plantation houses. Near Calhoun is the historic site of New Echota, and several festivals are held each year to honor the history and heritage of the Indians. Also nearby are the Carters Lake Historical Society and the American Indian Museum of Georgia and the Georgia State Museum.
Carters Lake was built to protect against flooding and generate electricity from hydropower, and has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state of Georgia and the nation. Located just a few miles north of Atlanta, Georgia's largest city, it offers lake lovers a true outdoor experience, whether you're looking for a picnic spot or just want to enjoy and get to know this deeply historic landscape.
