About Twin Mandall Lakes
Gold was discovered, settlers were discovered and everything changed, and settlers discovered the West and the search for happiness in the search for happiness.
Twin Lakes consists of two natural glacial lakes located at the foot of Mount Elbert in the San Isabel National Forest. The mountain is named after Samuel Hitt "Elbert," the statesman of Colorado, and at 14,433 feet is the highest mountain in Colorado and the second highest in North America.
Although both lakes are natural, the Twin Lakes Dam was built in the 1930s to make water transport from Turquoise Lake to the Mt. Elbert power plant more efficient. The water is transported from Lake Turque to the mountain lake and then over a dam on the top of the mountain to Twin Lake to transport water from the Elberts power plants.
The Mt. Elbert power plant is located on the north shore of the Twin Lakes, and the water flows from Lake Turque at the southern end of the lake to the power plant. The complex is a 14-storey building, mostly underground, and includes a visitor centre explaining the project.
Recreation at the Twin Lakes is organized by the U.S. Forest Service, which offers camping, hiking and climbing, including ice climbing and snowmobiling. The Forest Service is located in the San Isabel National Forest and has access to more than 1.5 million acres of woodland in Colorado.
Two miles west of the lake is the Twin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, a national park with more than 1.5 million acres of forest. The Twin Lakes offer a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Ice fishing is popular in winter, and the lakes are a popular destination for ice fishing, ice skating, kayaking, canoeing and kayaking.
Founded in 1879, it experienced a prospecting boom that began with gold and then developed into silver and lead. The Denver and Rio Grand Railroad reached the station Twin Lake and became the mining hub for Leadville and Aspen. Mining stopped, but tourism flourished during that time and is still a popular tourist destination today.
In 1885, a recreation community called Interlaken was founded on the southern shore of the Untersee. Today it is owned by the Ministry of Restoration and includes a museum, an amphitheatre, a cowshed, a ski resort and other amenities.
Visitors will find Interlaken when they follow the Colorado Trail, but there is another great place to visit nearby: Twin Lakes, Colorado, USA. The combination of beautiful scenery, great hiking trails and great ski slopes makes Twin Lake a fantastic mountain holiday.
