About Lake Isabella

Lake Isabella is one of the largest lakes in the United States and the second largest lake in California. The US Army Corps of Engineers built the lake-side dam, also known as the Isabella Dam, in 1884 as part of a larger dam project for the San Francisco Bay Area.

The lake is located at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada and enjoys warm summer temperatures and mild winters. Lake Isabella offers year-round recreational opportunities and has become one of California's leading vacation destinations.

In 2006, a leak was found in the dam, and the Corps of Engineers lowered the water level to investigate the leak and identify mitigation measures.

Lake Isabella is a great place for fishing, a leisure activity that many enjoy, as many species live on the surface, including striped bass. In fact, the pearl fishing here is so good that local anglers hope to soon reach a record sample of perch. While visiting the lake, make time for fishing; it is one of the most popular fishing destinations in California.

Always make sure you have a valid California fishing license with you before you arrive, as it is one of the most popular fishing destinations in the state.

On warm days you will find sea boats of all shapes, sizes and speeds: sailboats catch the strong summer breeze, pontoon boats enjoy a leisurely cruise, canoes and kayaks take a quiet walk in the bay and motor boats race along the coast, often attracting wakeboarders and water skiers. However, before you set out on the inviting waters, you should be aware that your boat must have a license for Lake Isabella, which is available at any marina on or near the lake. The refreshing, cool waters of Lake Isabella are ideal for summer temperatures that can reach up to 100 degrees and are perfect for swimming.

Grab a tube or water toy and swim out and watch the water hover over you as the cotton clouds pass by.

Swimming is not allowed more than 300 feet from the shore and over 1,000 kilometers of nature trails await outdoor enthusiasts. The Pacific Rest National Scenic Trail runs 78 miles through the Sequoia National Forest, connecting nudists with a unique and magnificent redwood ecosystem. There is much to see and experience in this 2207 square kilometre forest, including redwoods, pines, cedars, oaks, pines and much more.

The lower core, the southernmost river in the Sierra, offers rapids as it whizzes through canyons, and the upper core offers heart-stopping drops. There are numerous tours to help you navigate the rapids of both the lower and upper core. For those who like it exciting, the Kern River is the largest and most exciting of the three main rivers in the California Sierra Nevada.

The fun doesn't stop when the temperatures drop, and some would even say that the fun of the summer months at Lake Isabella, California, USA, has only just begun.

The California region is home to many winter sports, and Shirley Meadows is one of the state's most popular ski and snowshoe areas. The site offers lessons and a very fair price makes it a great place for those who can follow the sport.

Lake Isabella is a wonderful holiday destination for all four seasons, with snow-covered activities and many opportunities for those who can not decide. Depending on your preference, plan your trip according to the season or plan a little bit of Lake Isabella in summer and plan the trip around the lake.
