About Tulloch Lake

Lake Tulloch, a tributary of the Stanislaus River, is part of a much larger water system and is used for irrigation and recreation, but according to the California Department of Water Resources, everyone has something to offer.

Farms grow almonds, walnuts, grapes and grasses for grazing, and three reservoirs, including Beardsley Reservoir and O'Donnell Reservoir, serve as the primary water supply for the city of Tulloch and the rest of the state of California. Together, the three provide water to more than 1.5 million people in the San Joaquin Valley and the cities of Sacramento and San Francisco. Lake TULloch, which was created in 1958 by the construction of a dam and power plant at T Mulloch, is part of the Tri-Dam project, which consists of three dams on the Stanislaus River, one each in San Jose, Santa Rosa and Sacramento, as well as a power plant and two reservoirs.

The New Melones Dam is managed by the Bureau of Reclamation and releases cold water, and Lake Tulloch is about 2 km south of the dam. The water level in Lake TULloch fluctuates as needed, but the water level in the lake fluctuates with the water flow of the Stanislaus River, the San Joaquin River and the Sacramento River.

Krappiefishing is best in winter, while pine fishing is good in spring and summer and there is also a healthy stock of brown trout.

Land fishing in autumn and winter is also good and trout fishing is productive in both summer and winter.

In addition to fishing, Lake Tulloch is also a popular summer destination for boating, canoeing, kayaking and other recreational activities.

Most of the private land around the lake is residential, but there is public access for a fee on both the north and south banks. On the south shore of Lake Tulloch there is also a public marina with a parking lot for boats and kayaks and a boat ramp.

Lake Tulloch began as a gold rush in the 1840s, but the town closest to the lake, Copperopolis, began for a different reason. It is now the second largest lake in California and the third largest in North America after Lake Oroville.

The city, formerly known as Copper Canyon, began in 1861 and grew as demand for Civil War bullets and copper increased. As the name suggests, Copperopolis developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries as a result of the gold rush, and the city itself began to grow in size and population as demand for Civil War bullets grew with the demand for copper.

Today, Copperopolis Town Square, a planned community, is a charming place to visit, and the city has a number of restaurants, shops and various accommodations that have retained their original character. The area around Lake Tulloch offers a variety of winter sports, including downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as an area that is considered a historic gold mining town to explore.

Accommodation in the area includes private holiday homes, campsites, hotels and motels, and there is also a RV park on the shores of Lake Tulloch.

The benefits of Lake Tulloch have grown over the years, starting with its natural beauty, scenic views and easy access to the Pacific. The proximity to San Francisco Bay and the surrounding area makes it a destination for the whole family.
