About Lake Maumelle

With its 70 miles of mostly wooded coastline, Lake Maumelle is a paradise for nature lovers. It is located north of Little Rock, Arkansas, in the Ozark Mountains of the Arkansas River Valley and is about 30 miles northwest of Arkansas City. The lake is controlled by Central Arkansas Water and was completed in 1957 by dam projects on the Big Maumselle River. MaUMelle The reservoir serves as a water supply for Little Rock Arkansas and the nearby town of Fort Smith, Texas.

For this reason, the leisure activities on Lake Maumelle are limited, but fishermen and sailboaters can enjoy the peaceful surroundings while enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the lake.

To protect the water quality, Lake Maumelle is divided into two zones, with zone one, which is closest to the dam, being an exclusion zone that has not been built up. Fishermen can be found in one of three designated coastal fishing areas in Lake Mummerl: North Fork, South Fork of the River or East Fork.

With the exception of boats, the waters of Lake Maumelle are calm and popular with many regattas. Although camping is not allowed in the landscape around the Maumellen lakes, campers will be glad that it is not far away. MaUMelle Park offers a number of campsites for camping, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and other activities. The campsite is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located on the Arkansas River.
