About Roper Lake
Roper Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Arizona, USA and the largest lake in the state of Arizona. Although it is only 32 hectares, its waters invite people of all ages to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and views of Mount Graham.
This pleasant retreat offers a variety of leisure activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, camping and picnics. In the early 1960s, Lake Roper was developed as a private recreation area, and the Arizona Game and Fish Commission bought the lake and surrounding land to develop the area into a state park. Originally, the plan was to build a 100 hectare lake on the property, but further planning revealed that a larger lake was not feasible.
Dankworth Pond is located two miles south of Roper Lake and consists of 15 acres of surface water. It was once used as a commercial catfish farm before being bought for the State Park, but is now used for fishing and was added to the R in 1982, which was opened to the public in 1983 as part of the state park system.
Nature lovers can enjoy the scenic views by hiking along the Dos Arroyos Trail, which starts at the eastern end of the pond.
During the walk, visitors will find a newly built Indian village, the first of its kind in the USA, used by southwestern tribes.
Today it is home to a variety of fish species as well as birds, reptiles and birds of prey.
For anglers who like to collect trout and perch, Lake Roper offers a calm water for being included in the stock. The wildlife on Ropers Lake includes a variety of birds of prey as well as fish, reptiles, birds, amphibians and reptiles. When you are in ROPER Lake, you can relax and enjoy a picnic with friends or family or even camp in the lake itself.
Additional fishing is available at Dankworth Pond, which is reserved for fishing and located at Roper Lake State Park, as well as at the boat ramps that are available at Ropers Lake State Park and on the lake itself.
Guests at Roper Lake can take advantage of two nearby national forests showcasing Arizona's finest beauty. The Tonto National Forest in the northwest of the lake covers nearly three million acres and is the fifth largest forest in the United States. Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, located northeast of Ropers Lake, includes more than 2,000 acres of wildflowers and over 1,500 tree species, as well as a variety of other wildlife.
It offers additional outdoor sports and activities, including fishing, camping, hiking and nature observation. Visitors can discover more than 1,000 hectares of wildflowers and over 2,500 species of trees, as well as a variety of wildlife.
Roper Lake State Park offers three campsites, Hacienda, Cotonwood and Gila, which include primitive sites and sites with water and electricity. Each campsite has a fireplace, barbecue and picnic table, and most accommodate campers up to 45 feet. For guests who prefer more amenities, cabins with heating and air conditioning are also available.
The splendor of Roper Lake will captivate anyone who takes the time to explore the attractions in their area. Visitors who choose this area have spectacular views of the lake and its many attractions, as well as the beautiful waterfalls.
