About Lake Guntersville
It is located in the Appalachian foothills of northern Alabama and stretches in Tennessee from Chattanooga to Chattanooga, and is located north of the Tennessee-Alabama border. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has built the Guntersville Dam to build a hydroelectric power plant, dam and water treatment plant on the Tennessee River. Relocate America named Lake Gunterville one of its "Best Places to Live in America" in 2014. The Alabama Mountains are rich in natural beauty and scenic beauty, as well as rich history and culture.
The city of Guntersville was founded shortly after the American Revolution and named in honor of the city's first mayor and his adopted son William Gunter.
The Guntersville reservoir was approved by Congress for flood control, shipping and hydropower generation. Among other things, it will support the creation of new water supply for the city and its inhabitants, as well as the construction of new roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
TVA built two locks in the reservoir to handle the river traffic, but the water level only fluctuates up to a maximum of two meters.
Events attract tourists all year round, and the calendar is packed with food, fun and community.
The park features a fully equipped picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches and picnic chairs. Accommodation includes Lake Guntersville Inn, a full-service hotel with private pool and spa, and a guest house. There is an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, volleyball courts and a tennis court with indoor pool.
A few miles to the north is Bebe Mountain State Park, home to some of the most spectacular formations in North America. These formations include the Great Blue Ridge Mountains, Rocky Mountain National Park and the frozen North Atlantic.
Fishing is also a major attraction, as the abundance of fish in the lake proves, from small, medium and large trout to large, long-toothed sunfish. The fishing experience is characterized by a long line of fishing rods and a small fishing boat. A fishing line may seem restrictive, but some can reach up to 24 inches and others up to 30 inches.
If you don't bring your own boat, you can rent it at Lake Guntersville Resort for $10 per day or $20 per week. Craggy cliffs tumble into the lake, flora dominates the landscape and 949 miles of coastline are waiting to be explored. Watch clouds hover over you and enjoy the cool water as the sun sets and the sun rises in the sky.
Lake Guntersville has something for everyone, with a wide variety of activities, from kayaking and fishing to hiking and camping.
